HEAT TREATMENT or ISPM-15 FACILITY
If you are exporting goods to another country on pallets or in a box chances are you will require our heat treating services. Many countries in the world (more than 120 countries) require heat treating and one or two further conditions. Shree Geeta Group can provide the heat treatment required for the International standards for phytosanitary measure ISPM-15. All lumbers used in pallets which are stamped with our heat treatment stamps meet ISPM (International Standard for Phytosanitary Measure) 15 requirements.
What is Heat Treating?
Heat treatment is a phytosanitary process that is required for all wood packaging materials used in international shipments. The process eliminates pests such as the Pinewood Nematode and the Asian Long-Horned Beetle which may, as they travel from one nation to another, pose a threat to forests and crops. The heat treatment process was developed by the IPPC (International Plant Protection Convention) and is defined in ISPM 15 (International Standards for Phytosanitary Measures, Publication 15).
How it works?
Pallets are placed in a special chamber and heated according to specific criteria. In order to be ISPM 15 compliant, a wood core temperature of 56 degrees Celsius/133° Fahrenheit must be reached and maintained for a period of 30 minutes or more.
In short wood packaging require either heat treatment (HT) to 56˚C Core temperature for 30 minutes or fumigation with methyl bromide (MB). How ever there has been some discussion about eliminating the fumigation with methyl bromide in the future due to environmental concern.
